The importance of studying the O.T

A person will never properly understand the N.T. Scriptures if the O.T. Scriptures remain a mystery to him. Yet for the average Christian the pattern, unity, and progression of the O.T. remain vague or unknown. Although almost everyone knows about Noah and the ark, Moses and the Red Sea, and numerous other stories found in the books of the O.T., the O.T. itself often seems fragmented and is seen only as a loosely knit group of stories. But to understand God's ways and His purposes in this age, as well as His plans for the future ages, requires a clear comprehension of the O.T.

For examples, there are about 350 direct quotes or clear allusions from the O.T. found in the N.T. book of Revelation. This amounts to about fifteen O.T. references per chapter. It is no wonder that for many who do not have a good grip on the O.T, Revelation is essentially a closed book. Comprehending the O.T is crucial to understanding the N.T.

Great doctrinal truth are developed in the O.T. For example, significant revelations concerning the attributes of God are recorded. The N.T. of course, concerns itself with the Person of God, but it is the O.T. that give us our basic understanding of God's majesty, power, holiness, and sovereignty. His love, goodness, and wisdom are the subjects of many psalms and numerous prophetic declarations. What can rival Isaiah 40 on the greatness of God or Psalm 23 on the loving care God?

Perhaps it is our lack of understanding of the O.T. that has brought about a basic deficiency in our knowledge of God and as a result, our walk with Him. After serious study of the Ole Testament, one is inclined to walk with more reverence before our majestic God.

So much foundational truth is found in the O.T-truth that the N.T writers assume we know and understand. An almost endless list of doctrinal truths and meaningful facts could be given to validate the importance of the O.T. to the N.T. Yet so often, students of the Scriptures wrestle with truth found in the books of the N.T. because they fail to recognize O.T. background.

The purposes of the lecture

The purpose of this study is to assist the Bible student in seeing the pattern, progression, and unity of the O.T. Scripture and to be able to think through the entire Old Testament.

You must see the "big picture" and then he can begin to relate the various parts to this comprehensive view. Also, it is the purpose of this study to develop the central, unifying theme of the O.T., which is God's covenant promises to the nation of Israel.

The O.T. is made up of thirty-nine books. These books contain the history of the nation of Israel, the law of God for Israel, insightful and inspiring poetry, and the messages of numerous prophets.

To observe how these books relate to one another our study will begin with and will emphasize the eleven "foundation books." These eleven books develop the story line of the O.T. Since these foundational books, the great emphasis in this study of the O.T. will be placed on them.

묵상중에..

하나님께서 처음 영어를 시작하면서

고생했던 것을 기억나게 하셨습니다..

(지금도 여전히 모자라지만..)

그리고,

이 블로그에 남겨야 하겠다는 생각이 들었습니다..

도마학교에서 강의하는 강의안을 조금씩 올려놓으려 합니다..

영어가 공부가 되지않고..

그저 언어로 여러분에게 다가갔으면 좋겠습니다..

저는 처음 선교사로 파송되어 이곳에 와서..

그전부터.. 하나님께 기도한 것이 있습니다..

영어 성경을 읽으면서 영어와 가까와 질 수 있기를...

이곳에 오자마자..

영어가 무지 부족한 제게 영어강의는 정말 쉬운 일이 아니었습니다..

혼자 많이두 울고,

한국말로 가르켜도 부족하기만 한 성경을

왜 하나님 영어로 가르키라하시나요..

하면서 불평도 많이 했습니다..

이제 3년이 되어가는 이즈음..

아직도 턱없이 부족하지만..

하나님께서 도와주셨음을 고백할 수 있습니다..

부족한 영어덕에..

제 성경공부는 다를 교재보다 훨 쉬우리라 생각합니다..

조금이나마..

도움이 되길 기대하며..

할렐루야..

우리를 위해 싸우시는 하나님께 영광과 찬송과 감사를 드립니다.

결실의 계절을 맞이하여,

성도님들의 삶과 믿음이 더욱 풍성한 열매로 어우러지길 기도합니다..

이곳 인도는 우기를 맞이하고 있고, 이제 추위가 다가오는 겨울로 접어들고 있습니다.

우리 나라 사람들이 생각하는 겨울과는 차이가 있지만 난방시스템이 전혀 없기 때문에

벽을 타고 오는 한기가 제법 몸과 마음을 움츠리게 합니다..

여러 성도님들의 기도에 감사드립니다.

기도의 결과로 상황이 많이 자자들었습니다.

그러나 마지막 때 최후에 발악하는 사단의 세력은 여직 건재합니다.

그러나

하나님의 진노의 불이 힌두인들을 향해 타오르고 있습니다.

이것은 10월 1일 인도타임지에 실린 보고입니다.

테러에 의해 사망한 사람보다 힌두 축제에서 사고로 죽은 사람이 더 많다는 보고입니다.

2008년 테러에 의해 사망한 사람은 157명인데 반해,

템플의 크고 작은 사고로 인해 사망한 사람이 361명으로 집계되었습니다.

지난 10년의 통계를 보면 테러 767명 템플사고 875명인데 반해

2008년에 그 수가 두배가 넘는 차이가 나는 것을 보면,

기독교를 핍박하는 힌두인들에 대한 하나님의 진노가 아니고 무엇이겠습니까!

지난 8월 3일에는 하이마칼 프라데쉬의 힌두 템플이 붕괴되는 바람에

162명이 사망하고 47명이 부상을 당했습니다.

그리고 9월 30일에는 조디뿌르에서 갑자기 사람들이

템플에 들어가기 위해 미는 바람에 147명이 깔려 죽고,

60여명이 부상을 당했다고 합니다.

그리고,

그 오리사..-수녀를 강간하고 알몸으로 내보낸 것으로 인해 지금 많은 나라에 지탄을 받고 있는-에는 홍수가 나서 100명이 넘는 사람이 사망했습니다..

휴... 인도에 인구가 많기는 하지만

정말 파리 목숨처럼 죽어가는 사람도 이리 많습니다..

어떻게 생각하시는지요?

이것은 분명이 하나님의 진노라고 저는 생각합니다.

아직도 곳곳에서..

인도의 수도 델리에서 조차 교회를 파괴하고, 크리스챤을 질시하며,

10월 7일 신문에는 카르나타카와 오리사에 개종반대 법안을 통과시키려는 BJP(힌두당)들이 열심을 내고 있습니다.

정말 답답하고 가슴 아픈 일입니다.

하지만, 인도인들에게 10월은 아주 행복한 달입니다.

다사라와 디와리라는 그들의 힌두축제가 있는 달이기 때문입니다.

다사라 기간에는 9일 밤낮을 춤추고 노래하고,

많은 집대문과 차와 트럭, 오토바이 할 것 없이

바나나 나무-잘라도 아주 잘 성장하기 때문에 바나나 나무는 저들에게 풍요와 다산을 의미합니다-로 장식하고,

디와리에는 폭죽을 거의 10여일을 밤낮 가리지 않고 터뜨리며 그들의 신을 찬양합니다.

이것 때문에 실명하는 사람도 있고, 부상당하는 사람도 많건만...

저들은 빚을 내어서라도 폭죽을 사서 터뜨리지요..

갑자기 터지는 폭죽소리 때문에 소스라치게 놀라는가 하면,

시끄러워서 잠도 잘 수 없는 지경인데도 인도사람들은 행복해 하고 있답니다..

어떻게 생각하십니까.. 저들의 우매함을....

많은 시간 눈물로 기도하지만 여러분의 도움이 필요합니다.

기도해 주십시오..

하나님을 알지 못하는 안타까운 영혼들을 위해

하나님께서 얼마나 우상숭배를 싫어하고 혐오스러워하는지를 깨닫도록

성령께서 도와주시기를 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

그럼에도

이 안타까운 인도를 사랑하게 하시는 하나님께 감사드리며...
